What is fun to one person may not be so for someone else and this task got me thinking about what I enjoy and what I don’t. I know that some love to travel, others love anything that gives an adrenaline rush … What I come to time and time again is that joy for me is usually being with close friends or family – going out, staying in – in some ways it doesn’t really matter. I enjoy going out to eat, to visit museums, to listen to live music, and much more … but almost always in company, although I am also happy being alone at times. And I enjoy holidays but more often than not I choose to visit someone rather than visit a particular place.

Today I have spoken with some longstanding friends. We worked together several years ago and have kept in touch, meeting up every couple of months or so. Later this year we will be holidaying together and visiting a friend who lives abroad – combining time with people we care about and visiting a lovely city in Europe. Plans for the trip are coming together and once we are there, I know we will have fun.

Part of the enjoyment is the anticipation. I am looking forward to our time together and so some of the fun is already here. It is good to talk with friends about what we might do during our time there. We have been there once before and so we can think back to that and adapt our plan accordingly. I also know that part of the fun will be in the reflection after the holiday has taken place – looking at the photos, telling others about our trip, and talking with friends who were there about our shared experience.

I can’t wait …
