This has to be one of the most enjoyable tasks of Friendly February. One thing I love to do is to notice and appreciate someone’s qualities. I also enjoy passing this on to the person concerned (if they want to hear it), and to tell others if this is appropriate. In my work I helped people to recognise and use their strengths, and also find that if I do this for myself, it enhances my wellbeing and I become more effective.
However today I have spent some very special time with a lovely 3-month old baby. He is cuddly, smiley, good-natured, and has a lovely gurgle. He also smells delicious. I did tell him all this although I’m not sure how much he understood!
And then there is his 3-year old brother who I see as cheerful, good-natured, with a great sense of humour, and energetic. He is also brave in that he can be nervous in certain situations but is often able to pluck up courage to try.
The boys’ mother is generous, warm, bouncy, kind, and intelligent, whilst also being quite humble.
Others I’ve come across today include Bob who is funny, hard-working, helpful, generous, and affectionate. David is sincere, has a great sense of humour, and is warm and generous. His wife Gemma is hard-working, principled, and caring. And then there is Yvonne who I find to be interesting, intelligent, and compassionate.
This evening I am going out for a meal and so will meet a number of folk I don’t know. I will however try to spot qualities, and feel confident this will be possible although whether I will be able to do this with everyone, I don’t know. If I’ve time, I’ll say how I got on …
