Kindness is contagious – at least that is my experience. And over the past week or so I have received kindness from family, friends and strangers – for example, being offered generous hospitality by people I know well and less well – all of whom respect my choice to be a vegetarian. I have been paid a compliment by the daughter of a friend which seemed sincere and which I appreciated; and have been asked for advice about something which helps my self-esteem. On a couple of occasions I have been able to share some quite difficult stuff with a close friend, knowing that she will really listen, be non-judgemental and supportive, whilst also challenging me if needed. And there have been more … all of which remind me how powerful acts of kindness can be, and which also remind me of what I might do.
My acts of kindness (16 – 20) mean that I’ve:
16. Hugged someone rather short of hugs, and received a lovely one in return – it really cheered me
17. Given someone with little money a free coaching session
18. Done something I am rather wary of, because it would make the person who asked me happy
19. Picked up rubbish in the street
20. Chosen a non-birthday present that I hope the person will like – just because I wanted to.
Once again I want to thank everyone who has sponsored me. As I write this donations have reached over 50% of my goal. What this means of course is that I need to carry out and log many more acts of kindness!
